Choices Other Than Cable Television

We have been wanting to get away from cable TV service for a long time. The problem is they suck you in with their packages that include telepone, hi speed internet, and TV service. When you try to remove one, you lose the savings of the bundle.

But the cable TV setup just has to go, as the channel selection and quality is below average. There is so much discussion these days about hi def, there isn’t much of that with Cox Cable. So I started doing a little research on who else was available in my area.

I happen to be one of the people who have a few options. Unlike many subscribers who can only pick from either the cable company or satellite television, I have a third choice in my area. The old telephone company in my area has been upgrading their network. So now I have an additional player with Verizon and their FiOS service.

That doesn’t of course mean I won’t have the same issues. It would put someone in the same situation as with the cable TV company, because phone guys want me to bundle their television setup with high speed and voice service. If the deal works out well, I’ll be pleased. But if its not you are in the same situation that we all hate, being stuck with cable TV that isn’t all that great.

Some reviews I found on the internet are fairly good on telecom TV service. Because it is brand new, there is sometimes a learning curve with a new technology like this, and some clients write poor reviews. Those reviews are the funny, simply for the reason people make the decision to write a dissertation on their bad experience and post it on the web. Unhappy customers badmouth the company like it is some huge conspiracy to make the customer unhappy, as if the company does not want our money!

Another way to go that I’m seriously considering is of course satellite television. Since we have seven TV viewers in our home, we have subscribed in the past to a high end cable television bundle. The satellite TV choices are pretty comparable, as the Direct TV Premier and the America’s Everything Pack from DISH Network are both right around $115 per month. Yes that’s pretty high for pay TV, but if you make the comparison with taking your family to dinner and a trip to the movies, the entertainment value is comparable.
